Yesterday, we had a "Snow Day" here in the Mid-South. Being from the north by way of places like Buffalo and Syracuse, I will use the term "Snow Day" veeery lightly. This is just the way things are here in the Memphis area.

Our day started with loads of anticipation. Maggie was eagerly awaiting word via the morning weather report as to whether or not she could go outside to play instead of getting ready for school.
Lydia played along, possibly excited that 1) she too could go outside to play, and 2) Maggie didn't have school! Oh, the hell we can raise!
As soon as it was announced that her school was indeed closed for the day due to "inclement weather", we bundled up and headed outside to play for a bit before Brian needed to head off to work.
My mother-in-law asked me if yesterday's snow reminded me of "home". Uh, no. Not at all. Sorry. School up north didn't close for an inch and a half of snow on the ground and wet streets. (Now to be fair, my dear mother-in-law is from Pittsburgh and raised her 2 sons in New Jersey. She is no stranger to snow.)
Maggie and Lydia had fun running in the snow though, and they both tried their best using what they were given to make snow angels. The snowballs were of the dirty variety- leaves and grass and other lawn debris poking through. Ewww.
To any of my dear readers who find themselves in harm's way in the coming day or so, see below. Here is a still shot of our nightly news, giving the viewer some tips for "walking safely on ice". Everyone walk like a penguin and don't forget your gloves so you have no need for putting hands in your pockets. Something about your center of gravity and all that.
There you have it. Winter's Fury, 2009. Memphis style.
